3 tips for Summer property maintenance

The long winter/spring seasons have finally gave way to the gorgeous Seattle summer we all know and love. Your property is probably due for some much needed maintenance attention now that our weather has started to improve. Here are 3 things you can do for your property before you take off for the lakes and other outdoor activities.

1) Clean the gutters. During the spring, winter and fall seasons there can still be severe storms that cause a lot of debris to fill up the gutters. If the gutters are not draining properly, the foundation of the home will flood and could sustain significant water damage. During the summer the contents of the gutters will dry out and is easily removed.

2) Update your Lighting: Outdoor lighting often gets ignored, especially during the long Summer days when we do not experience lighting behavior. Now is a great time to do an audit on your lighting to make sure bulbs are replaced with energy efficient ones and that there is lighting in all the appropriate places (to deter pests and burglars).

3) Seal Windows and ducts: The heat is coming and more and more folks in Seattle are turning on the AC. It is important to make sure that the windows and ducts of your rental are sealed up tight. Having windows and ducts that allow cold air to escape and hot air to come inside can cause the air conditioner to have to work twice as hard leading to the motor burning out sooner and needing to be replaced.
