First Come, First Served?
Did you see Seattle's new measure on renter selection? This is a critical measure that fundamentally changes how rental owners select tenants. This is a great example of a good idea (prevent discrimination) gone horribly wrong. This removes the ability for landlords to choose who they rent to. You must rent to the first "qualified" applicant. As a landlord, how do you make sure you are renting to qualified tenants? The measure will require landlords to disclose screening criteria with their listings and keep track of the date and time they receive each application. Proper Rent can help. We can help establish the realisic rental criteria and process the extensive credit and background checks that can help match you to great tenants. Contact us to discuss! Links to the measure and a few other articles are blow.
